St Michael Fighting the Dragon

Large curved glass window panel for St Michael and all Angels Church in Cheriton.

I was asked to produce this special piece to sit on an empty window ledge in Cheriton Church depicting an epic scene of good over evil.

This piece took several months of development to design and plan. The first stage begins with a strong and clear drawing, then I make test pieces to start to bring the idea to life.

This piece required a total of 4 kiln firings to produce various effects in the glass. All the pieces of glass were cut by hand and shaded using powdered glass, and the details were added using traditional stained glass painting techniques. The glass was shaped over a custom made curved mould.

Each stage of the production needed careful planning to ensure the glass will show the image at its best.

The clouds in this piece were particularly important to convey the drama. I wanted to depict a dramatic stormy sky with the light of hope shining through. These dramatic clouds have now found their way into my other work!

To protect and stabilise this large 60cm x 60cm curved glass piece I had a beautiful custom metal frame made by local blacksmith Robert Smith.

Visitors are very welcome at Cheriton Church, you can find this piece on the right hand side as you approach the altar.

These characterful pugs are on a freestanding curve measuring 30cm across and 22cm high. They are produced from hand cut coloured glass, glass powders for shading, and then painted by hand using traditional stained glass painting techniques.

If you are interested in a commissioning an image of your pet in glass please feel free to contact alison@lunarglass.co.uk

You will need several highly detailed images of your pet.

A trio of abstract wood mounted pieces in blues, greens, a little gold and blue bubble details. These were designed to sit in 3 lit alcoves in the clients home to match their colour scheme along with the aged oak wooden beams in the room.

These pieces have been made using both opaque and transparent glass. This gives the glass multiple dimensions.

A cheeky tortoise making a beeline for her favourite food! This wood mounted piece depicts the clients pet tortoise, hand cut from coloured glass and carefully painted by hand using traditional kiln fired stained glass paint to bring out the details.
